Folktale: A Ghost Invited a Midwife to Help her Wife To Gave Birth Easily
I heard my grandmother tell me this folktale. says my grandmother. It was once said that there lived in a village a woman named Najma (an alias, as I do not genuinely know her name). Najma practices midwifery. Najma worked as a midwife, assisting other village women in giving birth to their children.
Najma used to be invited to the homes of the villagers whenever a lady was about to give birth. Najma grew older with time. and lost the ability to walk. Because of her elderly age, the villagers stopped calling Najma at that point.
Once at night there was a knock at the door of Najma’s house. Najma got up with great difficulty and opened the door. A tall man was standing there. He said to Najma, “Help me, come with me to my house.” Help my wife because she is about to give birth.
“How can I go?” asked Najma. Because I am old, I can not even walk. I will pick you up and return you. Says towering man. Najma is getting ready to go with this dude. Najma knew that the tall man was a ghost and not a real person.
The tall man took hold of Najma’s hand and took off. Najma began to fly at the same moment. And after a lengthy flight and travel, they arrived in a town. Where the huts were numerous, which was crowded with people.
There was a really tall person. That person’s face was terrifying. Some women were frightening, and some were quite attractive. Najma understood that she was the home of a spirit.
The tall man who had picked Najma up from her home took her to his home, where his stunning wife was laying. She was also nearing the end of her labor. Najma helped this woman to give birth to a child easily. Because the tall man was a ghost, therefore his wife was also a ghost. As soon as this ghost woman gave birth to a child. One by one, the infant babies of a ghost would greet Najma and run away from Gosht’s house till morning after birth. As soon as the Fajr pray calls in the mosque early in the morning. His wife stopped birth. The tall ghost thanked Najma and gave Najma many coals as compensation.
Since the coal meant nothing to Najma, she became quite irate. Najma dropped tons of coal along the road to decrease her load while flying with the ghost. She kept some coals for her home’s fire. As Najma opened the coal bag to start the fire in the morning, she discovered gold inside instead of coal. Najma was quite depressed since she had spilled a lot of coal the night before. Najma returned those palces and found that the tall ghost picked up all the coals and took them back.
Najma sold the gold and constructed a mosque. Today, it is called Daiwali Masjid.
