Easy Way to Bond PVC Window Sils Board

How to Glue PVC Window Sills: A Step-by-Step Guide

PVC window sills are a common option because of their toughness, ease of upkeep, and moisture resistance. Appropriate gluing guarantees a strong and durable bond, whether you are upgrading or installing new sills. Now let us begin the steps:

Materials Needed:

  • PVC window sill
  • Construction sealant (PVC cement, polyurethane, or epoxy)
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Fine-grit sandpaper (if needed)
  • Clean cloth
  • Gloves
  • Mallet or hammer

Step 1: Examine the window opening and the old sill.

  • Check the existing sill for notches or grooves. Measure them if present.
  • New windows may not have notches, so skip this step.

Step 2: Cut the PVC Sill Nosing (if needed)

  • Based on your measurements, cut the PVC sill to the appropriate length.
  • If your window lacks notches, no cutting is necessary.

Step 3: Apply Construction Sealant

  1. Clean the window opening thoroughly.
  2. Apply a thin layer of construction sealant (choose from PVC cement, polyurethane, or epoxy) to the window opening where the sill will sit.
  3. Ensure even coverage.

Step 4: Position the Sill Nosing

  1. Gently position the PVC sill nose onto the sealant.
  2. Use a mallet or hammer to lock it into place securely.
  3. Before the adhesive dries, remove any extra with a wipe.

Precautions:

  • Work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear gloves to protect your hands.
  • Allow the adhesive to cure according to the product guidelines.

Recall that an uncontaminated surface is essential to a solid connection. Your PVC window sill installation will go well if you follow these instructions!
